In this class, we will unfold the tricks of how to strategically plan and create your own custom family for curtain walls. We will even show you how to use curtain walls to generate quantity count schedule with different categories of families. We will also showcase some of the real-world project samples of how we use the tool.

Join this class to learn how to use the Revit API to develop a custom node to extend Dynamo for Revit by yourself. In this demonstration, we will show how to use the Dynamo custom node to automatically place Revit MEP Fabrication hangers according to the rules stored in a Microsoft Excel sheet. Dynamo for Revit does not support creation of Revit MEP fabrication parts with standard nodes, so in the sample, we’ll use a custom node developed via the Revit API. The custom node is developed on top of Revit Fabrication MEP API. The topic covers both Dynamo custom node and some Revit MEP Fabrication workflows driven by programming on top of the Revit API.

A big inefficiency in MEP design lies in communicating data between disparate design software. What if all of these applications could communicate seamlessly with a single data model? This class will showcase a solution in which disparate applications communicate via a common schema (GraphQL) and a cloud database (Neo4j). Introducing the design-as-a-service concept, we’ll consider the huge potential unlocked by moving the primary data model from Revit software to a connected cloud service. We’ll see how a common data model can store data beyond that which can be stored in the Revit model, and explore how you can easily integrate your own apps and services. Examples will include integrating an electrical calc service, and how the cloud data functions as a digital twin, where live sensor data is visualized within the Forge Viewer. Finally, we’ll consider how we can work together to further define and improve the data schema as something we can all own as innovators in MEP design.

This roundtable discussion will focus on how Collaboration for Revit cloud service changes the way we collaborate on delivering a building design. We'll discuss the benefits and pitfalls with this platform. In addition, we'll compare Collaboration for Revit with other platforms to learn why it stands out. We'll learn whether Collaboration for Revit defines a new standard of how we work as a team.

This class will explore and question the standard forms of communication between architects, construction managers, and builders in various parts of the world. In some cultures, hiring an architect, designer, and/or construction manager is not a standard practice or form of service. Architectural drawings can be misleading and hard to understand to someone with limited education and background in the construction industry. The African Design Centre Fellows, together with MASS Design Group and Autodesk Foundation volunteers, workshopped and developed new drawing techniques and standards that can be applied in other contexts to break down the communication barrier between architects, builders, and foremen on construction sites in Rwanda. Using the Autodesk Foundation's Volunteer Rwanda Trip in October 2016 as a case study, the session will discuss the lessons learned and applied during workshops with builders and foremen to help architects and designers communicate more effectively.

The rebar fabrication industry has seen great progress in streamlining the rebar supply chain, from rebar estimating through detailing, fabrication, and installation. We can attribute much of this progress to the software that rebar detailers and fabricators use, and to the integration of that software with the fabrication hardware. Still, there's an opportunity for the industry to improve how the rebar design is transformed into the product installed on-site. Attendees will learn how to export 3D rebar detailed in Revit Structure Suite software to a leading rebar MIS (management information system) software product: Applied Systems Associates (aSa). This process will drive fabrication processes in the shop and field. We'll cover many topics, including effective practices for detailing rebar for fabrication, organizing rebar releases in Revit software, exporting data to aSa, and distributing 3D rebar data along the supply chain.

This class will take a deep dive into lookup tables for Revit families. Learn how to use lookup tables to easily add text, or even part numbers, to hundreds of families. Discover the common issues faced when using lookup tables and learn the easy ways to fix them. Create families with multiple lookup tables to better control data flow, and learn how nested families can create issues and discover the steps to resolve them. You can eliminate hundreds of types with the use of just a couple of lookup tables. Throughout this session you will have access to custom Microsoft Excel tools to make creating and updating lookup tables a breeze. At the end of the class, you will have all the secret handshakes needed to create your next truly smart family.

We'll look at the continuation of project workflow when converting the design model to a fabrication model. You'll learn how to convert design information to fabrication items, while discovering some of the pitfalls, and tricks to overcome them, along the way.

Mechanical and architectural design relies on visualization technologies to showcase designers’ ideas. Increasingly, that relies on generating highly realistic materials. This class will examine how to incorporate the use of OSL shaders along with the physical material in 3ds Max 2020 software to render photorealistic images and animations. Learn where to find and download OSL shaders that can be used in a visualization, and how to customize your own OSL shaders. Use multiple shaders to create a unique material for your models. Get ahead of the competition by learning to create visually compelling, photorealistic renderings using OSL shaders and compositional rules in a streamlined workflow.

This class will cover the topic of bridge modeling, detailing, and analysis in Revit software. Designers can create a bridge using axis alignment parameters and assign a parameterized cross section. Substructure components, such as piers and abutments, are constructed as Revit families and placed in the project with reference to the axis. The user has direct access to the bridge’s and axis’s information. Modifications of the structure parameters are immediately implemented in the project. With the data already defined, an analytical model can be generated, and detailed analysis and design of the structure can be performed. Reinforcement and prestressing cables are modeled according to the bridge axis and adjusted in anchorage zones. Detailers can automatically create section views and place dimensions, as well as annotations.

In this class, we will look at EDGE and how this tool can be used to detail precast concrete, from conceptual design and estimating to final design and production. From providing real-time estimates to maintaining rebar naming conventions, and anywhere in between, EDGE is the platform that lets Revit users work at the fine level of detail required by the precast concrete industry.

This session will propel you into Revit 2018, exemplifying the advantages of using a singular model throughout the preconstruction process. Learn how to go from design intent to fabrication spools using Fabrication Parts in Revit software. In this session, you will convert a Revit design model to Fabrication Parts, make design and coordination changes, define and detail fabrication spools, and create all construction documentation without ever leaving Revit. You will gain first access to new 2018 software add-ins that streamline this process with prepopulated templates and content libraries. This hands-on session will reinforce best piping practices, and give you the tools you need to take your business to the next level.

This class will cover using Dynamo with Fabrication Parts. It will be an intermediate class, which assumes attendees know the basics of Dynamo. We will add parameters to Fabrication Parts, look at the nodes available for Fabrication Parts, and build a few scripts to automate processes in Revit software. At the end of this class, we will look at additional possibilities for Dynamo within the Revit environment that will increase your departments’ productivity.
