With many projects being vastly different from one another, it can be hard to figure out what exactly your BIM (Building Information Modeling) and virtual design and construction (VDC) needs will be for your project. AECOM Hunt has had the fortune to work on and coordinate many different projects. We have learned that, while perhaps similar, no 2 projects or teams are the same, and that each must be handled uniquely. During this course we will share our experiences on 4 projects: Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Redwings; Aloft Magnificent Mile, Chicago; Mount Carmel Hospital, Grove City; and Kite Pharma-Cell Therapy. Are you still manually installing your newest Autodesk products? Once you’ve created a deployment package using Autodesk’s deployment tools, you need to quickly get it to the user’s system. Would you like to save several hours and be consistent with your deployments? If you stay current with your deployments and organize them so you can deliver them at any time, you will automatically save time. By continuously testing releases, creating deployments, and delivering them silently, you can move into an efficient as-needed deployment delivery mode. As a case study, we will review the process used by KTGY Architecture + Planning to deploy Autodesk products to more than 400 systems across 7 offices and 2 countries. At the end of this session, you’ll have more techniques to help automate the installation of the Autodesk software. By continuously testing releases, creating deployments, and delivering them silently, you can move into an efficient as-needed deployment delivery mode.

Most AutoCAD users have either taken an AutoCAD course or have been trained by existing users within their business. Very rarely do they get to explore some of the tools that aren’t standard. This session will address those “I wish I knew that” statements. This fast-paced class will introduce users to 45 important tips and tricks that can be achieved across “vanilla” AutoCAD software. We’ll categorize the tips across each area of AutoCAD, from navigation through to output—including Render, Creation, and Modify. The session will have a question-and-answer session at the end where the audience will be able to ask any questions that arise from the session.

At its core, AutoCAD software is a platform that you can extend to automate workflows to manage projects and streamline design processes. While there are many benefits to extending AutoCAD, managing the resulting custom files and settings can be challenging. AutoCAD provides a variety of tools to help you develop various custom files and settings, but much is left up to you regarding how you should manage files and settings and eventually migrate them to a newer release. This session will introduce you to some of the tools and best practices that you can use to simplify documenting, managing, and migrating your custom files and settings.

When you have a complex project where Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination is absolutely necessary, and you add to the equation that design consultants and all of the subcontractors have no BIM experience . . . you are in a challenging position. The intention of this class is to give you an idea of the implemented BIM workflow in a temple project located in Argentina (South America), where BIM use is not developed yet in this region. However, the proposed implemented workflow (single-source work-share partner) is applicable to many other situations, even in advanced BIM markets. We will share this experience and discuss pros and cons of the approach, results achieved, and proposed next steps. We’ll go all the way from Revit software design models, to coordination with Navisworks software and Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform, to fabrication models with AutoCAD MEP software versus Revit software and shop drawings generation, to approval process. A complete workflow analysis from start to finish.

Learn how Johnson Controls has used Forge to let its customers interactively design gaseous fire-suppressant-system configurations on a webpage. The application enables dynamic section-by-section placement of pipework, and it automatically inserts appropriate fittings, warns the user of configuration mistakes, and automatically verifies the system design effectiveness. In this class, Johnson Controls team members will demonstrate their Forge-based application, design an agency-approved fire-suppression system, discuss why they used this current approach in development, and explain the benefits that their new Forge-based solution has given them.

Customization is a key feature in AutoCAD software that makes it different from any other CAD tool on the market. Configuring user interface, modifying the files within AutoCAD software can greatly improve productivity when using AutoCAD software. By customizing AutoCAD software, a user can streamline different product workflows and enable creation of new ones that can improve the company works. This hands-on lab walks you through the process of creating custom schedules in AutoCAD MEP software, as well as customizing the existing schedules. Learn how to effectively use property set definitions and schedule table styles. We also cover the process of creating custom object tags and the use of classifications to control object selection for inclusion in schedules.

This class will show you how to get the most out of the powerful features of AutoCAD Architecture software and improve your productivity. You'll learn valuable tips and tricks and proven techniques to save time and make your drawings more accurate. You'll learn how to create and apply display configurations, as well as how to override display representation to define how an object appears; how to extract the quantities of materials in a selection of walls; how to perform wall cleanups; how to use multiple insertion points for AutoCAD Architectural multiview blocks, which you can toggle through using the Control key; how to display a graphic line to verify which object a schedule tag is anchored to; how to let one insert cut an opening through multiple walls; how to create an endcap that joins 2 wall components; and how to add a wall parapet using a sweep.

This class will be an introduction to the Object Modeling Framework API, which is a powerful extension of AutoCAD software’s ObjectARX API, and is the backbone for products like AutoCAD Architecture software, AutoCAD MEP software, and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. To begin with, we will introduce AutoCAD software’s ObjectARX API to set the platform for product customization using API. Subsequently, the class will cover some important theoretical concepts in the Object Modeling Framework API, which will be supported by ready-to-demo sample applications. In addition, the class will cover a step-by-step demo for developing a new Object Modeling Framework application to demonstrate creation of custom objects and related features. The class will focus on educating the attendees about how to use the Object Modeling Framework API to automate and simplify their day-to-day design activities. The demo samples chosen will be relevant to industry-specific workflows as supported in AutoCAD Architecture software and AutoCAD MEP software. The class will also cover information about managed version (.NET) of the Object Modeling Framework API and overall API documentation that is available. Facility managers face numerous challenges that are driving them to demand a better turnover experience to reduce productivity losses and establish a digital platform for facility operations and management. This class will cover the range of turnover and post-construction services requested from owners and the need to turn design and construction Building Information Modeling (BIM) inside out to support their vision and goals. We share our journey with leading owners, and how the growing gap between Division 1 specifications and emergent owner requirements force rethinking project turnover to deliver integrated and contextualized information for facility management. The owner cases highlight successful BIM implementations based on alignment of technology with process redesign and organizational development to produce smart project outcomes. The owner cases include examples of solutions using Revit software, BIM 360 Glue software, BIM 360 Field software, and other tools.

This class will walk through all aspects of Project Navigator within AutoCAD Architecture software. We’ll cover the differences between using Project Navigator versus the Sheet Set Manager; how different aspects of Project Navigator will help create a more efficient workflow; how to use Project Navigator to create a more comprehensive project; and how to take those projects and create 3D renderings.

Follow us on our journey as we work toward building an owner’s vision into one of the most inventive aquariums in the country. We will show how BIM engineers can successfully work with owners, architects, general contractors, and subcontractors during the preconstruction phase of any project in order to coordinate scheduling and procurement, reduce requests for information, improve construction sequencing, and much more. This couldn’t be possible if BIM Engineers didn't use multiple Autodesk, Inc., products, and we will demonstrate how these products’ interoperability enabled us to successfully coordinate with the entire Project Team from inception to completion. These products combined enabled us to create a construction model that was not only used for coordination of all trades, but was also used to generate constructability drawings for the field. Watch as we demonstrate how to successfully create these drawings, and we’ll also show how a unique collaborative process and Autodesk products can improve any project’s return on investments.
